Memento Mori

“Memento Mori”-a few examples of skull creations for an art & book project.

Time, much like life, is irrevocably finite. This limitation imposes upon us the necessity to make choices; how we live, what we pursue, and with whom we share our moments. Time’s passage is relentless and unidirectional, a feature that underscores the theme of death. As we cannot escape time’s flow any more than we can escape death, each moment becomes precious.

In this context, memento mori serves as a catalyst for mindfulness and presence. It urges us to live each day fully, knowing that time once passed cannot be reclaimed. Philosophers like Seneca and Heidegger have emphasised that a vivid awareness of mortality helps prioritise our actions and desires, focusing our attention on what truly matters and discarding the trivial.
